Hello everyone,


Learning Goal:  Use the senses to make general and specific observations, and communicate observations orally and by producing captioned pictures.

I first wanted to thank all of those who contributed and brought in something for the science experience.  The students were excited all week to do this.  The students had to use one or more of their senses of hearing, touch, and smell to predict what they thought the object was.  There was so much excitement that I forgot to take pictures of them doing it but below are pictures of them revealing their objects to the class.  This was a really fun expericment for all students.  I encourgae you to ask them what some of the objects were.  I'm sure they would love to tell you if they haven't already.

I had a great time this week getting to know all of your little ones!

  Our week was another busy one filled with many learning opportunities. Our reading groups are continuing to develop and improve their reading skills. The decoding of unknown words was our focus along with the introduction of the silent “e” and what it does to the vowel… make it say it’s name. In Social we are planning our dream community. We will then map the community and create a 3D model. In Science we have investigated animals that hibernate in winter. We also looked at where they hibernate and how they prepare for hibernation. Basketball was our subject for Gym. We practiced dribbling, blocking and shooting before playing a game. The students really enjoyed this unit. Next week we start curling. In Math we continue to work with numbers 1 -100. Our knowledge of place values has improved and our next project will be subtraction of numbers 1-20. Hello Families, Grade 1 has had another busy week of learning! National Indigenous Peoples Day This week we focused on Indigenous Peoples Day. 6We recognized and celebrated the history, heritage, resilience, and diversity of First Nations, Inuit, and Metis across Canada. Thank you to our fabulous Grade 3 students for organizing an informative assembly.  Through intentional work around the Acknowledgement of the Land, we are able to engage in critical reflection and create personal connections to this important work in many meaningful ways and opportunities. We would like to acknowledge the traditional territories and oral practices of the Blackfoot Nations, which include the Siksika, the Piikani, and the Kainai. We also acknowledge the Tsuut’ina and Stoney Nakoda First Nations, the Métis Nation (Region 3), and all people who make their homes in the Treaty 7 region of Southern Alberta. Hello Families, We had another wonderful week in Grade 1! Wow! Our students loved Classroom Camping! Our day was filled with wonder and excitement as students designed their tents, wrote about camping, drew pictures, played camping bingo, and told spooky stories. Thank you to all our volunteers this week who made this special day possible (Anne, Tara, Nicole, Jessica, Jennifer, and Victoria).  Check out our pictures below! Art: I can make drawings from observations. -Students drew a variety of camping-related pictures.
