Hello Families, It is so nice to be back and see everyone again. We enjoyed another exciting week in Grade 1. I hope everyone has a wonderful Spring Break filled with rest, relaxation and sunshine! Literacy * I can set learning goals for literacy. * I can identify messages that provide enjoyment. * I can identify messages that are imaginary or real. We love to write! This week students were encouraged to expand upon their ideas and include increased detail in their picture and add descriptive vocabulary to their work. Literacy success criteria included: 1) Illustration (including increased details) 2) Colouring (4+ colours and neatness) 3) Punctuation (sentences end with a period) 4) Printing (correct letter formation, letters sitting on the line, letters are appropriately sized) 5) Spacing (appropriate spaces between words) 6) Spelling (inventive spelling that the student can read to themselves, high-frequency words spelled correctly) Some of the writing prompts this week included: -I

Hi families,  Learning goal: I can make a leprechaun trap. This week was filled with St. Patricks day activities! One of the activities being building a leprechaun trap. Hopefully students all caught one this morning. The goal was to make one that would attract a leprechaun and then have an aspect of it where it would actually catch it. The students loves this activity and worked very hard on it. There was lots of creativity in the classroom with these the last few days. Im sure they were all very proud to show you theirs. Reminders:  Library Monday

Hi families,  Learning goal: I can add and subtract to 20.  Hopefully, you made it to the assembly and conferences. It was great meeting the majority of you! This week we finished up our addition and subtraction unit. To complete this students created their very own Steve Wyborney Splat! We have been doing a few examples in class and then decided to do one. Students put dots on a page and covered it up with a splat. They then had to create an addition and subtraction fact that went along with this. Hopefully, you got the opportunity to check this out during conferences.  Reminders:  Trickster has been postponed to May 8th - 12th due to sickness.  Library Monday  Bring in materials for students to create a leprechaun trap

Hi Families, Learning Goal:  Several sentences can be written to expand on one idea. The goal in students writing this week was to write using a beginning, middle and end.  We used a traffic light strategy to help make sure all compenents were included.  The green light is the topic sentence, the yellow is details and the red is the closing sentence.  This helped to try to get students to accomplish writing complete paragraphs.  They were doing spring writing about what they like to do during this time.  Ask them what they wrote about! Reminders Assembly on Monday @10:00 in the gym.  Please get students to practice and help set them up for success.  We look forward to seeing you if you are attending. Conferences are Thursdy and Friday so please book in if you ar wanting to meet.  they are all 15 minute spots.
