Hi Families, Learning goal:  Demonstrate an understandig of addition of numbers with answers to 20 and their corresponding subtraction facts, concretely, pictorially and symbollically. This week students started subtraction which they all did great on.  To help them learn this concept we used different manipulatives.  One activity we did was subtraction by squishing playdough.  They had board games and would land on a subtraction fact.  To answer they would set it up with play down on ten frames and smash the ones being taken away.  Once they got the answer they would cover it up on the board and the person to cover up the last answer wins the game.  This was a fun game that they participated in and all understood the concept. Reminders: Library on Monday, so please bring back any outstanding books.  If you have any outstanding books, you would have received a paper notice that student took home with the books highlighted.  If they have more than two outstanding books, they will not be

Hi Families, Learning Goal:  I can identify what communities need and might want We had a busy short week!  Lucky for us Adam's mom came in and did a presentation about communities.  This extended our knowledges about what goes into a community when planning it out, including things like types of housing, community services, business, transportation and utilities.  Students did an activity where they all drew a picture of the sections talked about and then came together in cmall groups to put all of thse sctions on chart paper.  This helped represent a mini community that they created.  Students learned so much during this presentation and I'm sure they can share lots with you.

Hello families, Learning goal:  I can make informed financial decision making that contributes to the well-being of individuals, groups and communities. This week students completed a junior achievement program on financial literacy.  These was a total of five lessons where students learned about communities, needs vs wants, jobs within a community, goods and services and entrepreneurs.  These lessons were very rich in providing students with a sense of how communities are mapped out and what some members can do.  Students drew and wrote what their role is and how they can help out in the house.  They all did amazing on it!  Go through their bookelts with them and ask them to explain some of the content we went over. Reminders: Please have students wear pink on Monday as there will ben an assembly in the morning for part of our Pink Shirt Day celebrations. Our Student Voice leadership group is having a bake sale/Candy Gram sale that will take place on Tuesday.  Student can purchase C
